Top 10 electric vehicle sales (BEV + PHEV) in Europe Q3
All markets in the area, with the exception of Italy (-35.0%) and Denmark (-2.6%), contributed to this strong performance, with triple-digit increases recorded in Cyprus (+490.0%), Latvia (+231.8%), Romania (+213.4%), and Bulgaria (+101.7%).
PHEV registrations, on the other hand, decreased by 6.0% in the third quarter of the year as losses were reported in all of the EU’s major markets. Germany and Spain had mild reductions (-0.9% and -1.0%), but Italy and France both experienced double-digit drops (-22.2% and -14.3%, respectively).
Due to this poor performance, PHEVs lost market share in comparison to the same time last year, and currently makeup 8.5% of all new vehicle registrations.
Petrol vehicle registrations in the EU decreased by 3.3%, totalling 823,360 units, from July to September 2022. The market share of gasoline decreased, as a result, falling from 39.3% in the third quarter of 2021 to 37.8% this year. However, gasoline continued to be the most widely used fuel in the EU.
Similar to this, 360,596 diesel automobile units were sold in the European Union, a 4.7% reduction in sales. Diesel’s market share decreased from 17.5% in Q3 2021 to 16.5% of all sales, a decrease of roughly 1 percentage point.
