The importance of modelling in the development of batteries

Batteries are critical for providing sustainable energy and mobility, but they still need to be improved in terms of efficiency, durability, security, and long-term viability. Battery models enable designers to create items more rapidly and with fewer physical prototypes. Computer simulations at various scales consider not just the properties of the materials, pieces, and cells, but also their influence on pack operation throughout the length of the simulation.

This Insight will highlight the role that modelling plays in the development of batteries, including both commercially available battery chemistries and anticipated improvements in battery technology (short and long-term)

Battery recoverability, reuse, and recycling in electric cars

Lithium batteries have numerous end-of-life possibilities, including repair, reuse, and recycling. When proper diagnostics and safe disassembly practises are in place, repairing a battery pack is an efficient means of increasing the useable life of such battery. Predictive maintenance and self-healing capabilities should be further researched and implemented to extend the useable life of a car battery.

This paper focuses on the recoverability, reuse, and recycling of electric passenger car batteries. The study focused on Europe and only covers automotive lithium-ion batteries, leaving out other components of electric vehicles.

EV Battery Recycle Development Trend

The global new energy vehicle business is rapidly increasing, and one of the most important issues is a lack of upstream resources. The EV battery recycling sector has been booming, and the approaching battery retirement tidal will fuel the industry’s expansion even further. However, many countries are still working to improve the EV battery recycling policy system in accordance with carbon-neutral norms. In terms of technical improvement, commercial strategy, and industrial chain synergy, the market for recycling EV batteries shows potential, but there are still many substantial challenges to overcome.

This study gives an overview of China’s EV battery recycling market, focusing on future technology breakthroughs, commercial strategies, and industry chain synergy.
